Candlelight Farms, New Milford, CT

An event produced by Elegance in the Country, a special group of talented vendors, on Sunday, April 10, 2011. The newly renovated barn at Candlelight Farms is the perfect party venue for the host/hostess who wants a beautiful country setting… with views of horses, fields, gardens and a lake.


For last Sunday’s party, Sarah Pineault/All Seasons Rentals, selected earthy tones for the tablecloths: terra cotta and lime green. What a perfect palette to work with. To add a little zip, I complemented these colors with bright orange and purple. One of my designs featured orange parrot tulips and purple vanda orchids.



Surprise details… notice the one vanda orchid glued onto the outside of the container.



A second design was created in a “cutting edge” rectangular container and included orange pincushion flowers, fiddle neck ferns and one aubergine mini calla lily.



The polished river stones at the base of the container were an important feature.



Another design incorporated green wire swirls inside the tall clear glass container,



which was used as a base for a dramatic arrangement of yellow arachnea orchids and curly willow.



The food was absolutely amazing!! Event Caterers of CT were tops in both presentation and food quality.



The favorites: the tuna tartare



presented in individual glass cups and procuitto wrapped around a cluster of arugula, topped with crème fraiche and reduced balsamic vinegar. The flavors of the food were so fabulous…. You had to taste Chef Joe Yorio’s food to believe it.


The focal point in the center of the room was Sweet Rewards’ cupcake tower. The pole was covered with birch bark…which matched the trees right outside the windows, and the plates on the tower were a showcase of colorful cupcakes…which were not only a feast for the eyes…but were oh so delicious.



The dessert table featured an abundance of Kelly Linquist’s goodies, including cookies, cake balls and a unique dessert: mini apple pie on a stick.




As you can see, the photos by Valdorama (Val Nanousky) captured the glory of the day….and behind the scenes…playing an important role was make up artist, Kelly Fischer Knisley, Pretty me Artistry.

What do palm, banana and monsters leaves, pine tips and pine cones have in common? For me at least, they bespoke of the favorite haunts of the two nature lovers who were about to tie the knot. Magical Wedding Reception at a Country Horse Farm

I’ve always loved the spare simplicity of the Sherman Congregational Church, tucked away on a quiet spot that time appears to have passed by.  So I was thrilled to have a chance to do the floral design work there for a wedding at the summer’s end.  A 20-foot garland of thick seeded eucalyptus framed the entrance to the church and gently cascaded to the landing.  Inside, two abundant arrangements of roses, dahlias, zinnias, and Million Bells flanked the Altar.  (They would make star appearances later at the reception.)      The bride’s family had rolled up their collective sleeves on their nearby horse farm -- emptying out the major barn and readying its interiors for an inspired transformation.   From the antique pine farm tables to the cutlery, goblets, linens, and décor, this was a sophisticated, yet marvelously understated affair.   I knew the Bride’s choice of blush-colored roses and white dahlias on the table runners of seeded eucalyptus would be perfect wi

Storybook wedding at Lake Waramaug Country Club

It had the makings of a storybook wedding: childhood sweethearts, and spectacular views of the golf course at The Waramaug Country Club and of Lake Waramaug’s sparkling waters. Photo by Keane Eye Photography at Lake Waramaug Country Club With such ingredients already in place, I turned to glorious, old-fashioned lavender and white flowers to make this bride and groom’s celebration all the more special. The result -- as sweet as the young couple –could have served as inspiration for a succession of Victorian-era valentines. Centerpieces of scabiosa, calla lily, larkspur and white veronica complemented the bride’s bouquet of lavender and baby’s breath and groom’s matching boutonniere. (I repeated the floral mix in the aisle chair décor.) Votive candles brought these lovely wooden tables to life as the sun began to set. Meanwhile the couple supplied joy and exuberance. It was simply a stunning event.
